Understanding the director´s diary

REAL BUDDY is a low budget, independent production by Mineworks Film. Keeping costs as low as possible is vital for that kind of work. Among many other tactics to achieve that for us is the separation of the shooting schedule in "phases", a term which you will find in the "Director´s diary" posts and others quite often.

The phases consist mostly of 5-7 shooting days in a row, mainly in one or two locations. By limiting the shooting schedule this way, the cast and crew people - most of them doing the work for free or very limited fees - aren´t kept away from their officially payed jobs for too long.

Surely, this slows down the overall production, but for us, it´s the only way to maintain such a high production value within our limited budget. We believe that at the end of the day we´re better off with a good film than with one that has been shot as quickly as possible.

REAL BUDDY´s shooting phases consist of phase I-III as of today. The last phase, phase IV is scheduled for the beginning of next year.
